I’m old enough to remember when music like this could actually sneak across AM radio waves. You could be half-listening to the still innocent world go by, and suddenly the usual crapola disappeared. A guitar would wander somewhere unexpected. A cello would rise above the din. The rhythm would shift beneath all. The bass would begin talking in a language of its own. Seven beats became eight, eight became nine, and somehow none of it felt mathematical. It felt alive, and expected at the time, in a word.

That was one of the great gifts of the 1970s. There was still room on your portable mono radio for music that didn’t necessarily explain itself. Music could be expansive, strange, virtuosic, beautiful, difficult, spiritual. It could take its time. It could build a cathedral out of sound and invite you inside. And pray, you would.

The Geometry of the Unfolding Aeon is that dream you always welcome in your sleep, but it isn’t an attempt to recreate the past. It is an attempt to remember what the past somehow taught us about possibility.

46 pieces unfold as one long passage through a myriad of general thermodynamics, a spectrum of orchestral colors and hues, jazz-fusion intricacy and yeah, sonic bragging, shifting and strange meters, that critical electric Fusion guitar, violin et al things strings, the vital Rhodes and synthesizers, fretless bass, woodwinds, brass, and drums that refuse to fucking behave. There are delicate spaces here, and there are moments when the whole thing seems to lift off the ground and occasionally, spectacularly, crashing back to Earth.

But beneath all the virtuosity, I heard/hear something simpler. A sense of virgin awe. The feeling that music can still become larger than the room. That patterns can actually become emotion. That complexity can become an exotic beauty you cannot resist, but you’re a musical whore, and you could care less about the inevitable and dramatic hell/heaven ahead, that time itself can feel less like a line and more like something unfolding around us. Which it actually is, but that is another rant.

Maybe that is what I was really listening for all those years ago, somewhere, something, between the static and the signal. And perhaps that is what I’m still listening for still. So turn it up or better yet, slap on some good headphones, get and stay high as fuck, allow it inside the den and deep into the sunken conversation pit with you (I’m in the kitchen making the tea), and just let the cosmic geometry unfold and fold you inside its dimensions.

Dig that.

Text to Music Prompt:

Jazz-Fusion in the style of 1970s orchestral progressive rock: partial orchestra (swelling strings, bold brass, woodwinds) interwoven with electric Fusion guitar, electric violin lead lines, Rhodes/synth keyboards, melodic fretless bass, and powerful odd-meter drumming.

Cinematic and spiritual in mood, grand, lush, and ethereal, alternating between soaring symphonic crescendos and intricate, virtuosic instrumental interplay. Complex shifting time signatures (7/8, 9/8), modal harmony, and dramatic dynamic swells from delicate, spacious passages to explosive full-ensemble climaxes.

Production should feel polished and widescreen, like a studio orchestra recording layered over a tight Fusion band. Emotionally transcendent and cosmic, not aggressive, awe and grandeur rather than raw heat.
