The painting shows three red-haired women pressed close together, eyes closed, in champagne-colored corsets. A sleeping white rabbit rests in their laps, and a few small red hearts are painted on them, like tiny wounds, or so I infer. The palette is pearl, cream, and copper against the caption’s “dimly lit” heaviness. It feels like a hushed, dreamlike vigil, to me, so I responded accordingly.
