The Mixtape’s Four Vibes
- Persian Instrumental Synth-pop / Dreamwave — Persian classical instruments (santur, tar, ney) layered over lush analog synths and a steady groove. Think of it like a Persian take on the nostalgic, glowing sound of ’80s Iranian pop (Googoosh-era) crossed with something like Tycho or Boards of Canada. This tends to feel emotional and cinematic, which suits the ornamentation and modal quality of Persian melody.
- Persian Instrumental Chillhop / Lo-fi — Santur or tar melodies over a laid-back boom-bap beat, warm bass, vinyl crackle. This works surprisingly well because Persian melodic phrasing has a lot of space and breath in it, which sits nicely over lo-fi’s relaxed pocket.
- Persian Instrumental Nu-disco / Funk — A more upbeat option, daf or tombak rhythms driving a four-on-the-floor or syncopated funk groove, with tar or kamancheh riffs on top. This has a joyful, danceable energy while still keeping the modal (dastgah) character intact.
- Persian Instrumental Ambient / Downtempo — Leans more toward introspective and atmospheric music, ney or kamancheh drifting over slow-evolving pads and textures (like Nils Frahm or Ólafur Arnalds‘ style) to be meditative and emotionally rich.
