Sound

Futuristic Afro Funk instrumentals withheavy synth bass, polyrhythmic percussion, cosmic lead textures. In 50 years, Afro Funk with dynamic, crystal-clear synth leads and shifting laser textures, keeping that deeply organic human rhythm anchored by futuristic electronic soundscapes.

What This Is

Afro Funk 2076 is an imagined glimpse into the future of Afro Funk. The basic question behind the album is a simple one,

What might Afro Funk sound like a half century from now?

Rather than trying to predict the future literally, I wanted to imagine it musically. I took the rhythmic spirit of Afro Funk, the movement, repetition, groove, percussion, and deeply human sense of rhythm, and placed it inside a much more futuristic electronic sound world. The result is an instrumental journey built around futuristic Afro Funk textures, heavy synthesizer bass, polyrhythmic percussion, cosmic lead sounds, crystalline electronic melodies, and shifting laser-like textures.

The idea is not to replace the human character of Afro Funk with technology.

It is to imagine what might happen when the two grow together.

The title is deliberately straightforward. Afro Funk identifies the musical foundation, African-rooted rhythm, funk, groove, syncopation, percussion, movement, and the physical feeling of a beat. 2076 places that music fifty years into the future. It is therefore less a claim about what music will sound like in 2076 and more an invitation to imagine what it could sound like.

Think of this album as a musical postcard from a future that doesn’t exist yet. There is no attempt here to say, β€œThis is exactly what Afro Funk will become.” Instead, the album asks,

What if the organic rhythm survived everything?

What if the groove remained unmistakably human, even after the instruments, studios, stages, and sound systems became radically more advanced?

That tension between the ancient and the futuristic is at the heart of Afro Funk 2076.

The musical foundation of the project is futuristic Afro Funk instrumentals. The sound is built around several important ingredients,

  • Heavy synth bass provides the low-end weight and forward momentum.
  • Polyrhythmic percussion keeps the music connected to the physical, human side of the groove.
  • Cosmic lead textures open the music outward into something more electronic and otherworldly.
  • Crystal-clear synthesizer leads represent the imagined technological precision of the future.
  • Shifting laser textures add movement, atmosphere, and a distinctly futuristic character.
  • Organic human rhythm remains the anchor underneath all of it.

That last point is important. For all the futuristic machinery surrounding the music, the intention was never to make something cold or sterile.

  • The rhythm needs to breathe.
  • The groove needs to move.
  • There should still be something recognizably human underneath the circuitry.
  • The futuristic electronic soundscape is there to expand the Afro Funk environment, not erase its roots.

The notes establish the album as an imagined future version of Afro Funk, but they do not include the final track listing, individual track titles, or track-by-track descriptions. Rather than inventing titles or pretending I know details that aren’t in this note, I’ll leave those perceptions up to the listener.

As it should be, but yet, here I go, again, explaining, when your inference and experience should always be paramount.

Afro Funk 2076 as an instrumental project, specifically penned as β€œfuturistic Afro Funk instrumentals.” No lyrics, vocalists, spoken-word performers, or individual vocal performances are included, intentionally. So the album is driven primarily, or really entirely, by instrumental sound rather than by a conventional singer-songwriter presentation.

This album is also an experiment in how music can be imagined and constructed when a human sound designer works alongside contemporary AI tools. The important thing to understand is that AI is part of the process, but it is not the entire creative process.

The project illustrates the following human and technological components,

HUMAN, The Sound Designer, aka JJ

The human is the creative director of the project. The human role is the part that determines the artistic idea, the direction of the album, what the project is supposed to communicate, what sounds belong together, what material is worth keeping, and what ultimately becomes part of the finished work. In other words, the machines can help generate possibilities.

The human decides which possibilities matter.

Google Flow Music, Lyria 3.5

Google Flow Music, using Lyria 3.5, is one of the AI systems involved in the creation of the music. Its role is part of the generative side of the process, helping create musical material from which the final project can be developed. The important distinction is between generation and authorship of the finished listening experience. Generated material is not automatically the finished album. It still has to be considered, selected, shaped, edited, organized, and placed into the larger artistic context.

Claude.ai

Claude.ai was part of the AI-assisted creative workflow. Its role includes helping think through ideas, language, concepts, descriptions, organization, and other aspects of the project surrounding the music.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT was also part of the creative process. AI assistance can be useful for exploring ideas, developing concepts, working through descriptions, organizing information, refining prompts, and helping turn a broad creative idea into something more concrete. For a project like this, that means the AI isn’t simply being asked to β€œmake an album.” It is being used as one set of tools inside a larger human-directed creative process.

Perchance.org

Perchance.org is also listed as part of the project’s AI/software process. It belongs to the experimental and generative side of the workflow, providing another tool for exploring possibilities and supporting the broader creative process.

Audacity 4.0.1, The DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)

The notes identify Audacity 4.0.1 as the digital audio workstation used for the project. This is where the generated and selected material can become an actual record rather than simply a collection of generated sounds. Editing, arranging, trimming, sequencing, balancing, layering, processing, and assembling the musical material are all part of turning individual pieces of sound into a coherent listening experience.

Linux, Ubuntu 26.04.5

The notes identify Linux (Ubuntu 26.04.5) as the operating system used in the production environment. So, in simple terms, this album was conceived by a human, developed with a collection of AI-assisted tools, and assembled in an Open Source Linux-based production environment.

For me, AI is interesting because it opens doors to musical possibilities that can be difficult to reach through conventional production alone. It can generate unexpected combinations. It can suggest textures I might not have thought of. It can make it possible to explore many different sonic directions quickly.

But speed isn’t the same thing as artistic judgment. The interesting part comes afterward. The human has to listen. The human has to reject things. The human has to recognize what works. The human has to decide what belongs beside what. And ultimately, someone has to decide when the piece is finished.

That is the philosophy behind the human–AI collaboration on Afro Funk 2076. The technology provides possibilities.

The human provides the direction.

The Future And The Past

There is a reason the project combines futuristic electronic sounds with Afro Funk rather than simply creating generic science-fiction music. Afro Funk already contains many of the things electronic music has spent decades exploring, repetition, syncopation, interlocking rhythms, layered percussion, bass-driven movement, and the physical relationship between rhythm and the body.

So the futuristic elements don’t have to fight the rhythmic foundation. They can grow out of it. The synth bass can become the futuristic extension of the funk bass. The electronic percussion can interact with polyrhythmic traditions. Cosmic lead textures can float above a groove that remains firmly connected to human movement. The laser-like sounds become another layer of rhythm, atmosphere, and motion. That is the imagined future at the center of this album.

Technology changes the instruments, but the groove survives.

What I Want You To Hear

I don’t expect every listener to analyze the production. You don’t need to know how an AI model works. You don’t need to understand synthesis. You don’t need to know what software was used. You don’t even need to think about the year 2076 while listening.

You can simply press play.

Feel the bass. Listen to the percussion. Notice how the electronic textures move around the rhythm. Let the futuristic sounds create the sense of a place that hasn’t been built yet. The concept is there if you want it, but the music doesn’t require homework.

Afro Funk 2076 is ultimately supposed to be experienced as music.

Period.

A Note About The AI Process

I’m being transparent about the use of AI because I think listeners deserve to know how contemporary music projects like this are being made. This is an AI-assisted musical project in which the tools are part of the process, but they don’t eliminate the human creative role. The album’s concept, direction, judgment, selection, editing, organization, and final presentation remain part of a human-directed process.

For me, the interesting question isn’t whether a computer can make a sound. Of course it can. The more interesting question is what a human can do when given access to an entirely new collection of creative instruments. That is part of what Afro Funk 2076 is exploring. It is not only an imagined future of music. In a small way, the process of making it is also a glimpse of that future.

Listen And Download

YouTube A/V Stream

Free MP3 Download, the Highest Quality, 320 kbps @ 44.1 KHz

The intention is for the music to remain freely available, with the highest-quality MP3 offered at 320 kbps.

For the final published version of these liner notes, I would recommend placing the actual download link and YouTube A/V stream directly here so the listener can move from the notes to the music without having to hunt for either one.

A Few Listening Suggestions

There isn’t a single β€œcorrect” way to listen to this record.

Try it through headphones if you can. The futuristic textures, synthesizer details, bass movement, and layered percussion have more room to reveal themselves when you’re listening through something better than a tiny phone speaker.

You can also put it on while you’re doing something else.

  • Drive.
  • Work.
  • Read.
  • Create.
  • Cook.
  • Walk.

Or just sit somewhere with the lights down and let the imaginary year 2076 arrive on its own. And if you really want to get inside the record, turn the volume up to a comfortable level, not necessarily loud, and listen to how the electronic elements sit on top of the underlying rhythm.

The technology is flashy.

The groove is the foundation.

What This Album Is Really About

Underneath all the futuristic imagery, this is still a record about rhythm. About movement. About the relationship between human creativity and machines. About taking something rooted in musical history and asking what it might become when carried into an imagined future.

Afro Funk 2076 doesn’t claim to know what the future sounds like. Nobody does. It simply imagines one possibility.

  • A future where the synthesizers are more powerful.
  • Where the sound systems are more immersive.
  • Where electronic textures can move in ways we can barely imagine today.
  • Where the instruments may look completely different.
  • But somewhere underneath all of that technology, there is still a beat.

And people still move to it.

Final Thoughts

Thank you for giving this album your time. Music is one of the few things we can make that exists only when someone chooses to listen. So whatever you hear in Afro Funk 2076, whether you hear a futuristic dance floor, a science-fiction city, an imagined Lagos of the future, a collection of electronic experiments, or simply some good grooves, I hope you enjoy the journey.

This album is an imagination. A possibility. A little musical trip fifty years forward.

And perhaps the most important thing is this:

The future may change the sound of the instruments, but it doesn’t have to change the human need to move when the rhythm feels right.

Thank you for listening.
