Where the Darkness Has a Song runs 66.6 (duh) tracks clocking in at 3 hours, 7 minutes, and 15 seconds. It is entirely instrumental, with no vocals and no drums, only a soft ritual pulse that you may feel before you hear it. I wanted something long enough to live inside, like a house with more rooms than you remember.
Macabre Musings is the pitch-black corner of TATANKA reserved for the eerie, the gothic, and the beautifully unsettling. It is for stories of dread, folklore, and haunted places, told as sound. This album may be the purest version of that idea I’ve yet to create. I didn’t want violence or jump scares. I wanted melancholy, spectral beauty, and the slow chill of realizing you aren’t… alone… in that listening room.
The palette was chosen with that in mind:
The record follows a quiet arc. The drones swell slowly into a gentle pulse at 65 BPM, then settle into a subdued 55 BPM heartbeat, and finally dissolve into silence. Think of it as a spirit stirring, lingering, and finally resting. The ending is meant to feel like peace rather than fear.
This is a human-AI collaboration, built with open-source tools wherever possible. I wrote the vision and the text-to-music prompt, and shaped the sound with Google Flow Music (Lyria 3.5). Claude and ChatGPT were my creative partners, and Perchance helped with the artwork. I assembled, sequenced, and mastered everything in Audacity 4.0.1 on Linux (Ubuntu 26.04.5). The prompt and the process are shared openly, because I believe the darkness is best explored together.
With All Hallows’ Eve only days away, here are some settings where this album belongs:
Light a candle. Close the door on the noise of the day. Press play, and let the music lead you somewhere delightfully unsettling.
I hope you find, as I did, that even the darkness has a song.
Happiest of Halloweens,

TATANKA: Music Meets Mission™
Instrumental ritual dark ambient, cinematic and gothic. Slow, lingering harmonic drones in a minor key swell gradually into a gentle pulse at 65 BPM, then fade to a subdued 55 BPM heartbeat before dissolving into silence. Layers of deep sub-bass, bowed cello, haunted pipe organ, distant church bells, glass harmonica, and faint whispering wind. Sparse reverberant piano notes echo like footsteps in an empty candlelit library. Spectral, eerie, beautifully unsettling, melancholic rather than violent. Spacious cathedral reverb, no vocals, no drums, no percussion beyond a soft ritual pulse. Perfect for a haunted house on All Hallows’ Eve.
