An instrumental album, eclectic fusions of ambient “background music,” also known as commercial music, utilitarian, but warm, organic and emotional, not overly produced. The definition of minimalist sound, using substantial and intentionally-placed spaces/silence as an instrument itself in the context of the composition.

Before you press play, here is a short guide to what you’re about to hear and how it was made.

Resonance & Room is a single hour-long instrumental album in 21 tracks. It runs 59:49, just under an hour. It has no singing and no spoken words. It is meant to play from start to finish, though every track also stands on its own.

A resonance is what happens when a sound lingers and vibrates after it begins, like a note ringing out or a hum filling a space. A room is the space that sound lives in. The album is about the relationship between the two, sound that has room to breathe, and rooms that are shaped by what you put into them. This is music for the space around you, whether that’s a desk, a kitchen, or a peaceful evening.

This is ambient “background” music in the best sense of the term. In the music industry it’s often called commercial or utilitarian music, meaning music made to accompany your day rather than demand your full attention. It is also warm, organic, and emotional, and it was deliberately kept from sounding overproduced.

The album follows a minimalist approach, a few elements at a time, each given ample room to be heard, experienced, lived in. Silence and space are treated as instruments here. The pauses are part of the composition, so please don’t mistake them for gaps or errors.

There are none within this album. Every track is instrumental, so there are no lyrics to distract, no lyrical themes, and no vocalists. The mood is carried entirely by the sound itself.

This album was built by one human composer working with several AI tools to do the heavy lifting, with the artist steering at every step.

In plain terms:

  • Human (the Sound Designer): concept, direction, selection, arrangement, editing, sequencing, and final decisions on everything you hear.
  • Google Flow Music (Lyria 3.5): AI music generation, used to produce finalized, fully and thoughtfully constructed musical material.
  • Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Google Flow Music, etc.: AI assistants used for planning, prompting, and writing support.
  • Perchance.org: a free, open web generator used for creation of the “slideshow” images.
  • Audacity 4 (alpha): the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) audio editor where the material was shaped, trimmed, layered, and mixed offline in post-production.
  • Linux (Ubuntu 26.04): the Open Source operating system on which everything was created, assembled and optimized for the UX (User Experience).

The AIs used as tools produced media only after the human songwriter decided what the album themes and construction was to be, what stayed on the LP, what was cut, and how it all fits together. Please treat the result as a collaboration, not a push-button product.

The download is the very best-sounding MP3 quality possible, so it’s worth grabbing for good headphones or offline listening on any device.

  • Use quality headphones or wide-range speakers if you can, since the quiet details and spaces are easy to lose on a phone speaker.
  • Play it low while working, reading, studying, cooking, or winding down.
  • Or play it at a moderate volume with nothing else going on, and let the sound and silences do their work.
  • Don’t skip ahead too quickly. Some of the best moments are the quietest ones.

This album was made with AI assistance, and I’m saying so openly, as always. I compose with AI assistance because it helps create new artistic pathways with a clear and fresh vision, explore far more sonic ideas than I could alone, while I continue to still shape, edit, and decide every detail of the final music, so the result is warm, human-directed, and publicly shared with anyone who wants to listen.

That said, all of my work is free, not monetized in any manner, so please feel free to download this and any of my other musical projects at will. If you ever have trouble downloading, please let me know and I will solve any issue.

Thank you for giving this time out of your day to the music. I hope it gives you a little room to breathe, and live well…
