Meredi,

First, in case you missed it:

I’d love to expand it with an interview, if you were interested, and to focus on what you might like to promote, etc.

I admire your skills as a composer, and I wanted to find a way to pay tribute to your artistry. I’ve written some additional songs for an AI Gen project I was almost done with, which I hope honor your work, and your humanity. This is my way of showing appreciation for your music, and I hope you’ll see it as a gesture of respect from one musician to another. I’m all about creating music that connects with people, affects them, ideally changes them, so I hope this resonates with you, and obviously, draws your attention to TATANKA.

This muzak by no means is properly mastered, but I wanted to run a somewhat normalized “stream” of the album and bonus tracks to share with you ASAP. I will master all WAV/FLACMP3 tracks, but as you know, that will take time. Fair warning, I love long format music. Love it. So I made a couple of extended jams for you, and hope they force you to your feet and you find said feet dancing.

I completely understand and respect if you are not a fan of AI, a deal-breaker for some artists I speak with, but I once was vehemently against AI myself. I not only get it, but am aligned with ethical use of AI, and do so with my work. See here:

Then I dabbled out of curiosity, and my opinion changed. Now I use it as a solution to illustrate what TATANKA could sound like, and in lieu of currently being in a band, it’s a pragmatic extension of my DIY ethic. And I have a progressing cognitive issue that now prevents me from composing as I once did, so since April, I have developed over 300 songs. Since all are copyright free, they double as potential fodder for any TATANKA members who might be so inclined to adapt. I can still play, record, and sing, but the writing has gone down the tubes unfortunately, so I am happy to be back in the saddle, even if side saddle.

The Sonus Futura “album” is for Meredi’s ears. It was a project I was working on when I discovered you, so consider it a hats off to your artistry. Yes, the Philip Glass influence is there, but lots of it might happen to be in your sonic ballpark, so I hope you enjoy it as a composer.

The “Bonus Tracks” as self evident. I was inspired by your work, and wanted to take Sonus Futura to another level. They are for Ina. It will make sense when you see the titles and yes, I did a hell of a lot of research, on you and Armenia, not to mention trying to make AI smart enough to assist me, so I hope it is not all a hellscape.

Below is the music information and below that is the TATANKA “pitch,” an email I tried sharing with you but you are a hard lady to connect with, so I hope this message makes it to your door.

I’ll post it all to my feeds and Socials when it is ready, and no, I won’t tag you then. For now, tag, you’re it. I wanted to make a gesture, musician to musician, but also human to human. In my research I read a few articles. I would love to know more about your dad, and his Armenian pop band. I’d also love to know what you truly think of us scary Americans. But mostly I hope we connect and get a chance to speak. My contact information is at the bottom of the pitch and I work (this is me) remotely, M-F so I can break away for call if you are like me and begin every call with automated customer service by repeatedly proclaiming, “Talk to human!” Considering all I do, irony is an understatement.

I won’t chase or pester you anymore but I wanted to make sure I did my best reaching out. As I mention in my pitch, I have so many questions, but it can wait.

I hope you and yours are well,

Respect and admiration,

JJ (Jer)

Sonus Futura

A fusion of: Neoclassical, Spectral, Post-Minimalist, Modal, Experimental, Ambient, Futuristic, Serial, and Electronic. As for the “album’”s title and theme, Sonus Futura – a fusion of Latin and Greek, meaning “Sound of the Future.” As always, my “albums” are concept pieces. Here is what I have so far:

This sequence unfolds like a journey, taking the listener through various realms and emotions. We begin with the dawn of Aurora Lux, followed by the passage of time Khronos. As we progress, we encounter the transformative power of knowledge Lumina Mutatio, the mysteries of the night Nyx, and the haunting echoes of the past Spectralis.

The second half of the sequence begins with the mystical realm of Elysium’s Gate, followed by the thrill of flight Aerope and the fragility of the human experience Crystallos. We then delve into the complexities of human emotion Lacrimosa, the rebirth of a new world Nova Terra, and the power of creativity Erebus.

As we near the end, we find ourselves in the present moment Kairos, surrounded by heavenly whispers Caelestis, and navigating the unknown Nebula. Finally, we reach the celestial realm Astrum and the ultimate transformation Xenogenesis.

This sequence feels organic and natural, taking the listener, hopefully, on a captivating journey.

Quick backstory: I learned something this weekend. Armenia is an emerging cultural force on the global stage. For this project, limited to Greek and Latin, I thought it might be interesting to do a deep dive into another culture. Aremnia was fascinating to learn about and then try my hand at devoting a few songs to this brilliant Armenian composer I serendipitously discovered. She’s quite good, you know, and happens to be Armenian, so that’s how I roll.

What I learned: Armenia is poised to make a significant impact on the global music scene. From traditional folk songs to the cutting-edge electronic beats of modern Yerevan, Armenian music is a fusion of ancient traditions and modern styles. And you are a quintessential example. I truly believe that Armenian music is set to become a key player in shaping the global sound, bringing a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences to the table. With its unique cultural identity, creative energy, and forward-thinking approach, Armenia is making waves in the music world and beyond, so if I am honest, I try to be ahead of curves and in Armenia’s case, you would be encourage to write and sing in, as well as make audiences aware of, the Armenian cultural tapestry. Plus, all members cook one supper a month for the crew (and play music, pick a flick, speak only in their native tongue (all of us) make everyone aware), and based on what I read, I would gladly volunteer to be your kitchen servant, as long as you taught me how to swear in Armenian.

Finally, here is a summary of my due diligence, and rationale for why Armenia is an optimal choice for the bonus tunes.

  1. Innovation and Technology : Armenia has been investing heavily in technology and innovation, with a growing startup scene and a focus on IT, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Sound and music technology are also evolving rapidly, with advancements in audio processing, virtual reality, and music generation. Could Armenia’s tech sector play a role in shaping the future of sound and music?
  2. Cultural Exchange and Diplomacy : Music and sound have long been universal languages, bridging cultural divides and fostering global understanding. As Armenia emerges as a key player in regional and global affairs, its rich cultural heritage and unique sound could serve as a powerful tool for cultural exchange and diplomacy. By sharing its music and sound with the world, Armenia can promote cross-cultural understanding and build stronger relationships with other nations.
  3. Creative Economy and Tourism : The creative economy is becoming an increasingly important sector for Armenia, with a focus on developing its cultural and tourism industries. Sound and music can play a vital role in this, from music festivals and concerts to sound installations and experiential tourism initiatives. By showcasing its unique sound and cultural heritage, Armenia can attract visitors and talent from around the world, driving economic growth and development.
  4. Education and Knowledge Sharing : As Armenia looks to the future, it’s investing in education and knowledge sharing initiatives that can help drive innovation and growth. Sound and music education can play a key role in this, from music schools and conservatories to workshops and masterclasses. By sharing its expertise and knowledge in sound and music, Armenia can become a hub for musical innovation and collaboration.
  5. National Identity and Branding : A nation’s sound and music can be a powerful aspect of its national identity and branding. As Armenia emerges as a distinct player on the global stage, its unique sound and cultural heritage can serve as a key differentiator, setting it apart from other nations and fostering a sense of national pride.

P.S. I am a big fan of System of a Down, specifically Toxicity. It’s probably not your cup of tea, and it actually isn’t mine, but good music is good music. When it was released, it was on my heavy rotation for months.

The Hook

There is always a hook. I suck at business by the way, so I wish the music could adequately speak for itself, but against my will, I have to grow up at some point. Or not.

Hi Meredi,

I learned of your work via a suggestion on Facebook. I dove into the rabbit hole and emerged a new fan. I adore your music. You probably hear this often, but I am reminded of Zimmer’s soundtrack for “Interstellar,” at times. You make fusion sound easy. I assume you compose for film as your work is grand, cinematic. But the spaces you carve out… I obliquely think of Cage’s 4′33″. Less is so much more.

I think I asked on Soundcloud if you are into Philip Glass? Anyway, I had to put you on blast: https://tatanka.site/meredi. I hope I did not make too many false assumptions, and blame AI if so, but I would be happy to make any edits if you would like, and hope it helps drive new traffic to you and your work.

I read you have played and composed for as long as you can remember? Are you self taught? I ask because I largely am, so I don’t know when I am breaking rules, a good thing, and appreciate others who unintentionally kick open doors. I studied theory but largely avoid it. I have so many questions, but will spare you, unless you would like to add an interview to the article. That said, yes, the “Deep Dive Podcast” is AI. Google Notebook. Check it out.

Congratulations on Deutsche Grammophon. You have got to be very excited. I look forward to hearing more of your elegance, which is a good segue into my interest in you as a composer. I am pretty confident you are not Indigenous, but it is one of our tenets, hence the following pitch:

We are TATANKA, an Indigenous-focused musical and cultural initiative that is timely and forward in all regards. Financial details are here: https://tatanka.site/. We have a VC and are funded. Relocation is required (likely U.S. or Canada) but we have not decided on the location yet, so we are open to suggestions.

TATANKA is not for everyone. If you are open to a collaborative “Social Impact,” Diverse, Equitable, Radically Inclusive (if you have issues with ANY marginalized group, we’re not for you) musical global initiative, and you are Pro-AI, and cohabitating with bandmates is viable, AND you would be interested in it all being streamed live 24/7, check out TATANKA, the “Orchestra Americana.” We are Matriarchal – women-led (I am a dude and intentionally will incrementally fade).
