A musician from Romsey, Charlie Smith, is on a mission to provide a platform for independent artists across Hampshire. Read on to learn more about his dedication to promoting local talent.
Charlie Smith, a 26-year-old musician hailing from Romsey, has been actively promoting independent talent in Hampshire. His music, which falls under the punk and rock acoustic alternative genres, has garnered attention across the UK.
Charlie noticed a lack of dedicated spaces for local artists to showcase their music in Hampshire. Most venues preferred cover acts over original songwriters. Determined to change this, Charlie hosts gigs in Winchester and Southampton, providing a platform for unsigned singers from diverse backgrounds and genres.
Charlie’s next gig is scheduled for April 27 in Southampton, featuring five acoustic musicians. Additionally, he will be hosting an all-acoustic night of music at The Railway Inn in Winchester on May 26, showcasing a variety of acts.
Charlie’s efforts have created a tight-knit community of artists in Hampshire. By supporting venues like The Railway Inn, which hosts open mic nights and ‘Roots Night’ for unsigned artists, Charlie aims to elevate the recognition of independent musicians.
