There is a particular hour of the night when the city changes.
The traffic thins. The lights become warmer. Perfume replaces daylight. Mirrors begin to glow. Somewhere behind a velvet door, the bass comes alive.
And then they arrive.
The women who do not ask permission to take the floor.
Las Reinas del Disco is an imagined journey through that night, a celebration of Latina women, the cultures that shaped them, the cities that carried their dreams, and the dance floors where identity, desire, freedom, and joy could exist together for a few incandescent hours.
This is not a history lesson, nor an attempt to recreate a particular year.
It is a memory from a night that never quite happened.
The album draws from the great collision of disco, funk, salsa, Afro-Cuban rhythm, Caribbean music, Brazilian groove, Latin pop, boogie, and the electronic sounds that were beginning to point toward the future. Its heartbeat belongs to the disco floor, but its pulse travels much farther: Havana, San Juan, Miami, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Nueva York and every place where people have carried music across borders and made something new from it.
The songs move through the night as the women themselves might.
But perhaps the night has not really been erased.
Perhaps it has changed us.
Disco was always more than a beat. It created rooms where people could become larger versions of themselves. It offered glamour to those denied it, belonging to those searching for it, and a few hours of freedom to anyone willing to step onto the floor.
Latin music has always carried a similar power.
Rhythm crosses borders.
People cross borders.
Love crosses borders.
Music crosses everything.
So these songs belong neither entirely to the past nor entirely to the present. They belong to that eternal place where a bass line begins, a woman steps into the light, someone reaches for her hand, and suddenly the whole room is moving.
No passports.
No categories.
No permission required.
Just rhythm.
Just night.
Just life.
Las Reinas del Disco is dedicated to every woman who has ever walked into a room and decided she would not disappear inside it.
The music is hers.
The floor is hers.
The night is hers.
Su vida es suya.
