ISO Thunder

Dear Drummers:

Once upon a time, there was a merry band of Minnesotan pranksters, @tripshakespeareofficial, whose drummer played an upright kit. We’re shamelessly stealing their primordial thunder. Pow Wows have drum circles, school bands have percussion sections, and we aspire to blend all together. No cymbals or snares – skins and percussion. Like the mighty Tatanka, it needs to power low, stomping mightily on the Terra Firma, as the good Doctor Hunter S. Thompson once quipped, “…from the 100th Meridian, where the Great Plains Begin.”

Regarding plurality, we need a percussion section. We have multiple sets of electronic drums, which ideally will comprise a circle, front/center stage. We’re open to acoustic drums, as also have cajóns, and various percussion, but there will be neither cymbals nor snares (think bells, chimes…). Also, digital is much less problematic for playing out, and rehearsing. So, if you can roll toms well, or have been in drum circles, and play nice with others, we want to talk to you. If you seek a band in which you alone are the center, TATANKA is not for you.

Finally, I won’t name drop here, but I have multiple well-known musical acts, and engineers/producers in my network. I am not suggesting TATANKA would get signed, but if we do as I propose, we will gain the attention of the right people. But what I propose is not easy, and it requires intense dedication and work, so if that’s not you, or you expect immediate success, we are incompatible.

@sheilaedrummer, @andysturmerofficial of Jellyfish, @officialslimjimphantom of the Stray Cats, and numerous other percussionists need no throne from which to rock & rule their realm. It takes more than a snare and hi-hat to establish and maintain the ethereal yet roaring groove we seek. For example:
