Jangly lo-fi indie guitar pop, Dunedin Sound style, circa 1982-1985 New Zealand. Chiming, treble-heavy Rickenbacker-style guitar arpeggios layered over a simple, driving, slightly-behind-the-beat drum pattern. Warm, melodic, hooky bassline sitting high in the mix, almost as prominent as the guitars.
Lo-fi, hissy, four-track cassette recording quality, no polish, no gloss, room tone bleeding through, cymbals slightly overloaded and washy. Reverb-drenched but cheap-sounding spring reverb, not a lush studio hall. Minor-to-major key shifts, bittersweet and wistful melodic feel.
